One of my favorite parts during our road trip through Croatia was the National Park Plitvice. If you plan to visit the national park as well, it will be good to know that there are two entrances:
Entrance 1 is for people who have limited time. You will enter from the top of the park, looking directly at the big waterfall.
Entrance 2 is for people who have more time and enjoy hiking/walking for a bit before seeing the famous spots.
As we only did a day trip, we, of course, entered the park via entrance 1. You will pay around 30-35€, depending on the season. If you are a student, you will get a discount. If you come by car, parking costs around 1€ per hour which is not too bad.
What is special about this National Park?
Plitvice National park is actually an ensemble of 16 natural lakes and a UNESCO Heritage. It’s turquoise water, fauna and amazing views will take your breath away.
What to see in this National Park?
One must-see, of course, are the big waterfalls, you will see right away when entering through entrance 1. Another spot is The Upper Lakes that you can visit by boat. This boat trip is included in your ticket.
The best photo spot is called Veliki Slap, which you can even type it into Google Maps. Furthermore, Gradinsko Lake, Barac Caves, and Gavanovac Lake will also be worth visiting.
Tips for Plitvice National Park
If you plan on visiting the National Park yourself, the following tips will be helpful for you:
- Bring food and enough to drink as it can be expensive in the park
- If you have a dog, you can bring him as they are allowed in the park
- Bring your ID if you are a student in order to save the entrance fee
- Visit during low season in order to enjoy taking photos and the walk through the park, rather than getting pushed around by impatient people who want to pass (pathways are super narrow)
I hope you found these tipps useful. For more action and visuals check out my YouTube video where I documented my road trip through Croatia.
